I think that one of the biggest appeals to me about the magicians is the fact that Quentin is definitely the main character and has so many great strengths, talents, and qualities, but he is never the “chosen one”.
He plays a central part in EVERYTHING, but he subverts all the usual expectations of a lead in a fantasy/supernatural show. He’s not the strongest. He isn’t the one to (always) kill the baddie. He isn’t the one who has hidden talents. He wasn’t the one chosen to be high king. And so on.
But he is still so endearing and important and great. <3 And it’s in part the writing, in part the actor, but it’s lovely.
when will YA authors realize that the mr. darcy fantasy isn’t “hot rich guy is a huge dick to you” but “hot rich guy fucking respects and listens to you”
